The purpose of this position is to supervise and support  team members in achieving  results in a manner that maximizes sales and operational authority; ensuring uninterrupted store operations. Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in observance of Rite Aid’s brand and strategy and adhere to our core values and service attributes.


The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Lead and supervise the activities of the Licensing team to ensure that licenses issued by separate jurisdictions regarding authorizations remain valid and current, by conducting bi-weekly 1/1 meetings with each team member to ensure workflow objectives are met.

  • Administer and review all aspects of the licensing renewal software program, including data security, utilization, and training in order to ensure the integrity of the information that directly populates store tables, the portal and NextGen
  • Act as the primary liaison to internal departments, to ensure team access to construction milestones (Expesite, Sitetrack, arch services report, wellness report etc.) tax clearances, corporate governance documents, burglar alarm system data, prescription labels, POS alcohol sales blocks, etc
  • Individually supervise and support the Licensing Specialists and Coordinators in obtaining new store, relocation or acquisition front end, and pharmacy and DEA licenses for new, relocating or purchased locations; acting as liaison with federal, state, city, county and township agencies to resolve complex matters surrounding licensing application submissions
  • Approve over $10M in license fees made annually by establishing and maintaining procedures that satisfy internal Accounts Payable policies, internal Indirect Procurement Dept standards, allocate charges to the appropriate accounts and cost centers, and ensures that payments are applied timely
  • Facilitate and manage the opportunities for the sale of alcoholic beverages chain-wide, including interpreting regulations and rules governing the acquisition, sale, transfer, renewal and safekeeping of alcoholic beverage licenses in 1,500 municipalities
  • Enhance consistency and promote best practices by guiding team members in creating and maintaining desk manuals relative to licensing processes and license renewal procedures; and by creating templates for use by other team members to ensure messages are being relayed to field operations and external agencies
  • Define and confirm the agency responsible for assigning premise address and house number in any particular jurisdiction chain-wide
  • Administer and support of ancillary programs enabling stores to transact product specific sales including iPLEDGE (isotretinoin) and Combat meth (pseudoephedrine) and DMEPOS (diabetic test supplies).

  • Track department goals and mandates including Rite Aid Specialty Pharmacy licensure and FDA distributors and third-party logistics providers (3PL) reporting requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises Licensing Specialist, Licensing Coordinators, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Rite Aid policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, and disciplining associates; appraising associate performance; and resolving complaints

Experience / Requirements

  • Three (3) years' of experience in Office or Corporate Environment required
  • One (1) year of experience in Retail Licensing Procedures required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Communications, Public Administration, or Government required
